Types of Courses
Introductory Training Course
Take
part in practical training and lectures about
some of Australia’s better-known unique wildlife (marsupials and
monotremes) to
learn the basics about their anatomy and ecology, as well as learn
about the
fundamentals of protection and husbandry management. Not only will you
gain
knowledge about the natural environment of the eucalyptus forests that
are
vital habitat for wildlife, our program also includes a tree-planting
activity.
We’re sure you’ll also honing your observational skills when we go
looking for
wild koalas as we glide down the river in kayaks. English conversation
classes
are also included.
Advanced
Training Course
An
intensive training course covering conservation,
rescue and rehabilitation of Australian wildlife is to be held
primarily at the
cutting-edge treatment and rehabilitation facilities of the Currumbin
Wildlife
Sanctuary Wildlife Hospital. Participants will receive instruction from
Dr
Michael Pyne, one of Australia’s leading veterinarians treating
wildlife and
other hospital and sanctuary staff. Dr Pyne has treated koalas in China
at the
request of the Chinese government. With the
cooperation of the Moggill Koala Hospital, we
will also be providing advanced wildlife clinical management and
protection
including autopsies.
Professional Training Course
The professional course is for veterinarians, veterinary nurses and
husbandry managers, etc., and provides training in a specific
field.
Marine Life Training course This course will involve the study of marine environments
and the basics of wildlife conservation at the University of Queensland’s Moreton
Bay Research Station (MBRS). This course is run in cooperation with the
University of Queensland, which is a leading authority among Australian
Universities in this field.
The
MBRS is on North Stradbroke Island, one of the largest sand islands in the world, which
is situated in Moreton Bay on the eastern coast of Australia. This part of the ocean is home to
dugongs, sea turtles, rays, dolphins, whales (between July and November), and a diverse array of fish, marine plants and more, making
it a hub for subtropical marine research.
During the course, students will be staying at the
MBRS with other researchers and students from across the world, as well as
receiving instruction and guidance from teachers from the University of
Queensland. This will allow the students to actively interact with people from
all over the world in their free time. Similar to the other courses, there will
also be a practical English conversation class.
*Seminars and training are mostly conducted in English. An interpreter
will be present as required, however, so those who are unsure of their
English language ability can still fully participate in the courses.
